More Than Words

Do you have an autistic child or a child who could benefit from social communication support? You might be looking for ways to make communication easier, help them connect more naturally with others, find greater joy in interactions, or experience less frustration.

The More Than Words Program helps you understand your child’s communication style and interests, teaching you how to use this insight during daily activities.

At a More Than Words Program, you’ll learn:

What motivates your child to communicate.
How to use your knowledge about your child's strengths to set appropriate and realistic goals.
How to make interactions with your child last longer.
Strategies for how to talk so that your child understands you.

Programme layout

1. Pre-program consultation

You and your child meet with the Hanen SLP

2. Orientation session

You learn about the More Than Words Program and what to expect

3. A series of parent-only group sessions

You attend eight interactive small group sessions, led by the Hanen SLP. In these sessions, you learn about social communication development, as well as how to use the program strategies with your child.

4. Individual visits with you and your child

You participate in three personalised sessions with the SLP, that include a video-recording of you and your child interacting together, followed by discussion with and feedback from the SLP.
